CrabTrap is an open-source HTTP/HTTPS proxy built by Brex's engineering team that sits between AI agents and the external internet, evaluating every outbound request against configurable security policies before it reaches any third-party API. It scores repositories A through F based on fork-to-star ratios, stargazer account age, and profile quality signals — the same indicators CMU used to identify 6 million fake stars across 18,617 repositories. The tool integrates directly into the GitHub UI via Chrome extension, overlaying a score badge on any repository page. The Claude Code plugin variant lets developers query star authenticity from their coding environment without leaving the terminal. Both interfaces surface the top suspicious stargazer accounts and flag coordinated star-farming patterns.
