The DX bet is that they've abstracted the hard parts — rollout policy, value estimation, node selection — so you can plug in your own model backend without rewriting the search logic. The moment of truth is whether the repo actually runs out of the box with a real model, and the open-source release with documented examples suggests it does. This is not a three-API-call Lambda — MCTS over LLM calls with proper value estimation is genuinely nontrivial to implement correctly, and Sakana shipping a composable version of it earns the ship.”
