The feature is built on GPT-5.5 and draws on Microsoft's Graph API to pull context from emails, calendar events, Teams conversations, and shared documents. In Excel, Agent Mode can autonomously clean messy data, build pivot tables, run regression analysis, and annotate findings. In Word, it can research a topic using Bing, draft structured documents, and apply house style automatically.
For knowledge workers, the implications are significant.
